Abstract : The Internet by far plays a major role in people’s life. It has drastically improved the quality of life and the standard of living of so many people. It has widened its branches into many different levels and areas. The e-commerce industry is one such branch which has come into spotlight in the recent years. The online bookstore system has eased the life of so many book lovers by making it easy for them to purchase books online. It is not always feasible to access a traditional bookstore, it is limited by its operation time, availability of a particular book, its location and most importantly its capacity and the space required to store numerous books. Such drawbacks have led to the evolution of e-commerce industries related to bookstores. Our project is one such simple e-commerce website which houses various books of different categories for a consumer to purchase online.
? This price is not negotiable and there exists no price comparison for same product.
? On campus bookstore can be monopolistic market if there exists no off campus bookstore and if there is no access to computer and internet.
? No lead time required neither any fear of loss exists with on campus purchase, you can check out the product instantly.
? There are various methods of getting a textbook.
? These methods are broadly categorized into purchase, rent and sharing.
? Sharing even if categorized as a purchase still limits the sales by reducing the number of buyers.
? It is mainly different from the traditional physical bookstores, to overcome a series of physical bookstores limited variety, fixed location, limited space and narrow sales channels and other issues, for people to purchase the book has brought convenience.
? There are also some disadvantage associated with the method like availability, limited inventories, buy back policies and non comparable price.
? Limited inventory is also another disadvantage, being a brick and mortar store having limited stock is precise.
? The biggest disadvantage that the medium of on and off campus retail sales faces is that of main source transaction which indirectly effects the price of textbook.
• The online bookstore system can not only reduce costs, save time, space, to bring convenience to everyone, but also to promote the development of the logistics industry, serve three purposes, mutual benefit.
• The main purpose of the study is to explain the increase in popularity of internet based textbook sales with respect to the methods of transactions that provide these medium a leading edge over others.
• The research study sketches two different models, the first model describes online medium of textbook sales, while the second model describes the on/ off campus medium of textbook sales.
• The study compares these mediums and showcases the advantages and disadvantages related to each medium.
